I Love Pie

I once took part in a passionate debate over which is better, pie or cake. many of the people involved were on the side of cake, solely because of their love for frosting. I mean if you're going to eat dessert, it might as well be slathered with rich gooey frosting, right? But, for me, frosting is just too sweet.             My vote is unequivocally for PIE.

Here are my reasons:  First of all, pie is a tapestry of texture starting with the crust... I'm talking good flakey, buttery crust . There are only a few simple tricks needed to make a good pie dough. (I have plans for more pie so the "tricks" and the dough recipe will be posted later in the week) Once you get a handle on how the dough should feel,  it's as easy as riding a bike...you'll be able to produce awesome crust every time no matter how often you do it. As for my other reasons, well,  I might be in denial, but it feels healthier to me. Especially if it's a fruit pie. Lastly, I don't consider pie only a dessert food. As a matter of fact I'd like to make a plea on behalf of pie that it should be readily eaten for breakfast. And why not? What better way to start the day. It covers many of the major food groups and probably contains less sugar per serving than most breakfast cereals. now then, I ask you, Can you say any of this about cake?
My organic apple pie with crumb topping.                          The topping is made with oats and nuts for an extra healthy feel ....Pie, it's what's for breakfast!
